Who is This Littlemama?

"Littlemama" was a name I came up with a few years ago when I started visiting blogs and forums.   At first I was too timid to leave comments or ideas of my own, but I soon got over that!  I needed an anonymous screen name that showed a little spunk but still described me.  Well, I'm little (4'11") and a mom to four kids, so with that clever combo a nickname was born.

I grew up in a Hispanic family in an middle class community in Florida.  I led a relatively drama-free life.  There were no divorces, moves, or life changing events that punctuated my youth.  It was a very 1950s upbringing, except it was the 80s and my mom was no June Cleaver.  I spent 12 years in Catholic school, then went to a small college near home and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.

After my boring youth I was thrown for a loop when I married a Marine.  In the first 25 years of my life, I moved one time.  In the following 13 years, I've moved 9 times.  We're currently living in on a small island the Pacific.  There are some very unique things about being a military family--the moves, the deployments, the strange lingo, the way world events have the capacity to affect everyday life.  But other than that, we are a normal family with the same problems, fears, joys and sorrows as everyone else.

Being a military wife, I've been made acutely aware of "the rules" of operational security that I should follow in order to keep my husband, my family, and our country safe.  I'll also follow the common sense guidelines of internet safety so that crazies don't hunt me down and do evil things.  Having said that, all names of children and husbands will be falsified.  Right now our family is obsessed with the sitcom "The Middle" so I'm going to copy the names from that show.  I'll be Frankie (the mom,) my husband will be Mike, and our kids will be Axl, Sue, and Brick.  Since we have an extra child I'll call that one "Doris" (the name of the dog on the show) but if you knew the real life kid you'd know she acts nothing like Doris.  Hey, we work with what we've got.

I hope to create a blog where I can write my stories and ideas and hopefully you'll share some stories and ideas with me as well.  I've moved enough to know that, while people can have some very strong opinions, we all mostly want the same things and hopefully we can post our ideas with respect and good manners.
